The experience at Cafe Du Monde comes with its quirks—it can be loud, and the lines may be long, but the expedited service ensures that you won't wait too long for a seat. And while the menu is simple, featuring just beignets, coffee, and water, the focus on quality makes each item shine. As another visitor aptly stated, "These were warm, fluffy, and really good," perfectly capturing the appeal of the cafe's signature dish.
So, if you're planning a visit to New Orleans, make Cafe Du Monde a top priority. Not just for the beignets, but for the charm, the atmosphere, and the unrivaled sense of community that comes with indulging in this signature New Orleans experience. Just remember to bring some cash, and perhaps a bib, because it's going to get deliciously messy!
“ Atrocious lines, but charming atmosphere with tables covered in powdered sugar - in the best possible way. The beignets are fluffy and everyone is happy. The gift shop is very cute. The stuffed animal beignets and the beignet mix are particularly popular. There are only two bathrooms for the MASSIVE amounts of people who come through here, and there is always a line. It is slow moving. Plan accordingly. There are a couple of the penny machines that turn your penny into a NOLA or beignet-themed penny, and we absolutely took advantage of that. ”
“ Had to check this place out. We went on a Friday and the line was pretty long but it went fast. We ordered beignets and coffee which was needed because the beignets were delicious but it was nice to have the bitterness of the coffee to cut the sweetness. These were warm, fluffy and really good. Lots of powdered sugar and can get messy. Would not recommend wearing black. Also cash only so make sure you have some on hand! ”
“ Did you really go to New Orleans if you didn't visit Cafe Du Monde? Beignets are some of New Orleans specialties so I make it my mission to get some each time I visit. Cafe Du Monde is located right in the heart of the French Quarter so it's easy to get to. It's also open 24/7 so you can get them anytime you have a craving. Their menu is tiny so so not expect to have other options. They only serve beignets, coffee and water. The food is fantastic. They are fried to perfection and they are drowning in powdered sugar. It can be messy so keep that in mind. Also note that it can get crowded but seats aren't impossible to find. You may have to wait for a staff member to clean the table but it's never a big deal. If you want to try a New Orleans delicacy, make Cafe Du Monde a top priority's ”
“ Went here while on a baseball tournament in Baton Rouge. Place is a must go to if in New Orleans. Lines are long but service is great. The Beignets are worth it. ”
“ Pros: The OG of beignets - this is the place to get them if you visit Ample seating Fast service Great location Cons: Cash only You will leave covered with powdered sugar, especially if it is windy Always long line for the bathroom Pro tip: Know what you want when you are seated. Eat then get out so others can have a chance :) ”
“ I'm not going to say anything that hasn't already been said. This historic establishment is a fun place to check the tourist box. The beignets are iconic and the coffee pairs nicely. ”
“ This place truly has the best beignets in the city. We tried beignets had a different restaurant, and the other beignets just don't taste as good. The beignets here are crispy on the outside, perfectly doughy on the inside, but not too much dough. They're perfect, plain and simple. The service was fun and the ambience is truly New Orleans. There is usually a live musician playing outside the restaurant that you can throw tips in their instrument cases. A few things to note: -This place is cash only -You seat yourself -3 huge beignets come with one plate order -the menu is laminated onto their napkin holder ”
“ I had one goal for myself in NOLA - get a beignet a day. I'm happy to report to my fellow yelpers that I succeeded, and completed 3 of the 4 days of my trip at Cafe Du Monde. These fried pillowy & sugary beignets are an absolute delight, especially when they're piping hot. The takeout lines moves pretty quickly; it's very no frills. Dining in is the same - there's a separate line, but you kind of find a table and plop yourself down. I opted for takeout most days since the park and steps are nearby. The cafe au lait was underwhelming - wouldn't say that this was particularly good coffee by any means, and it's quite pricey. CASH ONLY FOR BOTH TAKEOUT & DINE IN!! ”
“ Obviously had to experience Cafe Du Monde on my first NOLA trip! Luckily we had a location in walking distance from our hotel in the French Quarter so we did an early morning 7:30am walk to this location before we started a day of meetings. There was someone playing music outside (this early in the morning?!) and no wait. We got some beignets to share and cafe au lait. It was very yummy and a nice little walk but I actually think I would come back more for the coffee than the beignets! The chicory coffee was delicious (I'm not a big picky coffee person). The beignets were good but I don't have a huge sweet tooth so after 1 I was okay! Beautiful location and I'm glad we beat the line! ”
“ I have been to the original CDM across from Jackson Square many times before I started Yelping. I couldn't resist coming here on a recent trip to Crescent City. Of course I had an order of beignets, bc thats what you do in N'Awlins regardless of how full you are. The staff are super friendly and efficient. I ordered take out and there was a choke line. However, once I ordered, my beignets were in my hand in seconds, and I was on my way. Its old skool here w/ an open air cafe that is open 24 hours. Everyone is congregating and having a good time. CDM is a must when you come to N'Awlins. There are a few locations, but I like the original the best. ”
